Cisco College promotes teaching that leads to meaningful student learning. To teach and manage a distance education course, faculty need to:
- Demonstrate discipline knowledge.
- Commit to engaging students each week of the semester.
- Utilize distance education resources to provide quality instruction.
- Be adaptable to changing discipline, technology, and student needs.
Professional Development
Faculty should reach out to online@cisco.edu to obtain their Canvas credentials and enroll in the required Canvas training course. The training course introduces Canvas navigation basics, communication features, methods for organizing course shells, how to create and grade assessments, and more.
The Distance Education program maintains the Faculty Resources shell in Canvas. Faculty Resources is a hub for links to policies, information, forms, and tools to promote effective teaching and learning in distance education and web-enhanced in-person classes. It can be accessed from the Resources folder in the Canvas Global Navigation Menu.
During the fall and spring semesters, the Distance Education program hosts monthly professional development sessions focusing on distance education resources and practices. A calendar is available in the Faculty Resources Canvas shell, under Professional Development.
