Cisco College believes everyone should have the opportunity to further their education and begin a new career. However, we understand that not all students can attend campus-based classes because of work, location, or other circumstances. To meet your needs, we offer hundreds of distance education classes each year. For a list of current offerings, please visit our schedule.

Distance education classes offer flexibility while maintaining academic quality, learning outcomes, credit hours, and transferability. Additionally, we support all students with resources such as academic advising, financial aid, library services, and tutoring.

Distance Education course formats:

  • Online

Online classes use the College’s Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas. Students access course content, interact with their instructors and peers, and submit assignments through the LMS. A minimum of 85% of instruction takes place online. Some online classes may require proctored exams at a testing center or lab attendance. (Course Schedule abbreviation = ONL)

  • Hybrid

Hybrid classes provide a blended learning experience. More than 50% but less than 85% of the course will take place using Distance education resources. The remaining instruction will be delivered with the instructor and students in the same location. (Course Schedule abbreviation = HYB)

  • Video Conferencing

Video Conferencing hybrid classes are similar to traditional classes because instructors and students can see and interact with each other in real-time. However, Internet video broadcasting is used, so the instructor and students will be in different locations. Cisco College primarily uses video broadcasting to connect between the Cisco and Abilene campuses, along with our High School Dual Credit partners. Some online and hybrid classes may also use video conferencing tools to deliver supplemental instruction.
