Cisco College Rodeo Team Member wins National Calf Roping Championship

It’s been 43 years since a member of the Cisco College Rodeo Team last won a National Championship, but Freshman Ty Harris has just ended that streak.Harris beat out dozens of the Nation’s top competitors to bring home the Title of National Champion in Tie Down Roping from the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming.  

Harris has been roping since the age of four, and was looking forward to the tough competition he knew he would face at the CNFR.

New and Returning Regents Take Oaths of Office

Two returning members and one new member of the Cisco College Board of Regents took their oaths of office during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Regents on Monday, June 11. Justice John Bailey presided. 

Ronnie Ledbetter and Joe Jarvis return to serve on the Board or Regents after running unopposed in the May 2018 election. Mr. Matt Johnson joins the Board of Regents to fill the seat vacated by Ms. Sarah Adams.

Cisco College to Hold Youth Basketball Camp

The Cisco College Women’s Basketball Coaches will hold a youth basketball camp for kids ages 5-14 this summer. Help your child hone his or her skills with ball handling, defense, passing, shooting and more!

The camp is split into multiple sessions and age groups to best accommodate your child’s needs! The camp dates and times are:

  • June 21st and  22nd
    • Ages 5-9:  9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
    • Ages 10-14:  12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • July 10th and 11th 
    • Ages 5-9:  9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
    • Ages 10-14:  12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Cisco College Rodeo Sends Four Students to College National Finals Rodeo

Four Cisco College Rodeo athletes will be making their way to Casper, Wyoming later this month to participate in the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR.)

The CNFR is the best of the best in college rodeo where the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association crowns individual event champions in saddle bronc riding, bare back riding, bull riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, ream roping, barrel racing, breakaway roping and goat tying. More than 400 cowboys and cowgirls from hundreds of colleges and universities compete in Casper each year, and this year four Cisco College students will be among them.

Cisco College Offers "Pathway to Success" Summer Youth Camp

The Pathway to Success Summer Camp is designed for students entering 6th through 8th grades with an interest in learning more about a career in Health Science or Industrial Technology. 

The two day camp will be held June 27th and 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Abilene Campus, 717 E. Industrial Blvd. Participants will get a hands on introduction to many exciting career opportunities including nursing, surgical technology, respiratory therapy, welding, automotive technology, and many more!

Thanks to a grant from the new “Texas Talent Connection” program, Cisco College is pleased to announce a new partnership with West Central Texas Workforce Solutions in Abilene that will offer valuable internship opportunities to local students.

$92,998 was awarded to West Central Texas Workforce Solutions in Abilene for agriculture, industrial, automotive, energy and manufacturing internships.

Wrangler Belles Give Back

In an effort to give back to the local community, and exemplify “The Wrangler Way,” the Cisco College Wrangler Belles have arranged several service projects this semester.

Throughout the month of February, the Belles have been delivering food for the Meals on Wheels Program. Every day of the week small groups of Wrangler Belles deliver meals to seniors, who are unable to prepare a meal and have no one in the home who could prepare the meal for them.

20 members of the Cisco College family will have a happier Thanksgiving holiday thanks to the generosity of volunteers with AT&T Pioneers. For the last five years, the AT&T Pioneers have graciously partnered with the Cisco College Food Pantry, “Food for Thought,” and the Cisco College Blue Jackets to put together food baskets with traditional Thanksgiving fixings for students in need to enjoy with their families. 20 Cisco College students received those food baskets on Monday, November 20th.

Cisco College Women’s Soccer Team Earns Honors from NJCAA Region V

The Cisco College Women’s Soccer team is celebrating a number of honors after finishing second in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region V tournament on October 25th. 

NJCAA Region V named Coach Faith Thurman “Coach of the Year” for women’s soccer. Tristan Escamilla, Lisa Gallegos, and Alex Hajek earned All Conference/All-Region honors while Kaitlyn Shepard, Cierra Ciszecky, and Guadalupe Vazquez earned Honorable Mention.
