Entrance & Exit Counseling

Entrance Counseling

If you have not previously received a Direct Loan or Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL), the Federal Government requires you to complete entrance counseling to ensure that you understand the responsibilities and obligations you are assuming.

If you are completing entrance counseling to borrow a loan as an undergraduate student, then the entrance counseling will fulfill counseling requirements for Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans.

To complete Entrance Counseling as an undergraduate student or graduate/professional student, you will need:

  1. Approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.
  2. Entrance Counseling must be completed in a single session.
  3. Your FSA ID
  4. Name(s) of the school(s) you wish to notify of counseling completion

Students must log in using their own FSA ID to complete Entrance Counseling. Use of another person's FSA ID constitutes fraud. Use only your own FSA ID information.

Exit Counseling

Exit counseling is similar to the entrance counseling you receive when you first complete your master promissory note. This learning opportunity provides information about your rights and responsibilities as a borrower, including information about various repayment plans and deferment or forbearance options that may be available if you are unable to make a payment.

The federal government requires schools to conduct exit interviews with all students who receive specific types of federal student loans.
