American Heart Association Heart Walk

Cisco College is proud to renew its partnership with the American Heart Association. Cisco College Provost, Dr. Carol Dupree will be serving on the Executive Leadership Team for 2019-2020 and Beverly Massey has been named co-grand Marshall of this year's Heart Walk in Abilene along with her granddaughter Aubrey Massey.

Cisco College was personally impacted this past year with multiple employees having heart/stroke-related medical issues. Beverly Massey is one of the fortunate ones, she contributes preventive checkups to the fact that she is alive and healthier today! Many of us have family members this deadly disease has taken or affected. There are many of you here at Cisco College...We need your help and support for this project!

The scary truth from the American Heart Association website: Heart Disease, Stroke and other Cardiovascular Diseases • Cardiovascular disease (CVD), listed as the underlying cause of death, accounted for 840,678 deaths in the US in 2016, approximately 1 of every 3 deaths. • Cardiovascular diseases claim more lives each year than all forms of cancer and Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease combined. Total direct medical costs of CVD are projected to increase to $749 billion in 2035!

Beverly Massey will be heading up the project for donations from employees, faculty and staff this year. Please, consider creating a team for the annual Heart Walk in November. (Tentative date Nov.2). There will be more info to come. It can be lots of fun, there are prizes and contests!! You can get creative and create a t-shirt for the Best T-Shirt contest. We will have a tent on site for the walk. We would love for departments and groups to get involved and make this a huge success together.
