Child Development/Early Childhood

Child development professionals provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social , emotional and cognitive development of young children.

The purpose of the program at Cisco College is to produce knowledgeable and competent professionals who are able to work effectively with children from birth to 8-years of age and their families through various roles in early childhood educational settings.

A career in child care requires a person who is energetic, reliable and has a positive self-concept. These people should be dedicated to life-long learning and must enjoy working with and shaping the lives of young children.

The program is designed to provide training for caregivers or administrators in public and private schools, federal agencies, medical facilities, child care agencies and community agencies that requires trained professionals who understand the growth, development and needs of children.

The AAS program requires students to complete 66 semester credit hours of course work with 18 hours of general education courses and 48 hours of concentration in the major area of study. Students pursuing the level one certificate will complete 30 semester credit hours.
