Debbie grew up in El Paso, Texas where she graduated from Ysleta High School with a class of over 600 seniors. She was drawn to Cisco Junior College because of a high school friend who was recruited to CJC to play football and who liked the “small-town” community and college. After earning her associate’s degree at CJC, she worked on staff at the college for two years and then chose to return to college to get a teaching certificate in composite science. While attending Tarleton State University, she student-taught at Eastland High School and then, after graduating, was hired to teach biology and physical science at Cisco High School. Her next big job was a stay-at-home mom with her two sons, Brad and Dayne. While raising her family she found time to teach biology labs (part-time) for CJC and attend Tarleton to earn her Master’s degree in Science Teaching. Today, Debbie is Chair of the Natural Sciences Division at Cisco College, and teaches Biology 1413 (General Zoology) in the Fall, and Biology 1411 (General Botany) and Biology 2421 (Microbiology for Science Majors) in the Spring.
