The Business Systems Technology program at Cisco College prepares students for employment in the business environment. As the reliance on technology continues to expand in offices, the role of the office professional has greatly evolved. Office automation and organizational restructuring have led business and office personnel to assume responsibilities once reserved for managerial and professional staff. Many office personnel and office managers now provide training and orientation for new staff, conduct research on the Internet, and operate and troubleshoot new office technologies. In spite of these changes, however, the core responsibilities have remained much the same: performing and coordinating an office’s scheduled activities and storing, retrieving, and integrating information for dissemination to staff and clients.

The Business Systems Technology Program contains many courses that educate our students in a way to prepare for their upcoming career. These work preparation classes are developing Marketable Skills which is why Cisco College has three marketable skills awards built into the program. These three awards in the BST program will develop skills in accounting, business office skills, and soft skills for everyday interaction, giving the students a well rounded base of business knowledge.

The awards are:
  • Accounting Marketable Skills Award
  • Records Management Marketable Skills Award
  • Business Communication Marketable Skills Award

The awards are designed so that if a student completes the AAS they will finish with six total achievements including the AAS, Level 1, Level 2, Accounting Award, Business Communication Award, and Records Management Award. In addition, other business skills such as business communications and principles of management prepare the student for real-world environments.
