Automotive service technicians use their high-tech skills to inspect, maintain, and repair automobiles and light trucks that run on gasoline. In-depth training from Cisco College prepares students for entry-level jobs and/or upgrades job skills. Graduates of the program can work in many settings, including automobile dealerships, automobile repair shops, service stations, automotive parts stores, automotive specialty shops and service repair centers.
The work of automotive service technicians and mechanics has evolved from mechanical repair to a high technology job. Today, integrated electronic systems and complex computers run vehicles and measure their performance while on the road. Technicians must have an increasingly broad base of knowledge about how vehicles’ complex components work and interact, as well as the ability to work with electronic diagnostic equipment and computer-based technical reference materials.
The Automotive Technology program at Cisco College offers several options for interested students: a two-year Associate in Applied Science Degree, a two-year certificate and two one-year certificates. Classes are offered during the day as well as evening at both locations.
