Online & Hybrid
Cisco College offers more than 100 online and hybrid courses each year to help you achieve your degree or certificate goals. For a list of current course offerings, please visit our schedule.
What are Online Courses?
Online courses are delivered over the Internet through Canvas. Within Canvas, students obtain course content, interact with their instructors and peers, and submit assignments. While at least 85% of instruction will take place online, some courses may also require proctored exams at a testing center or lab attendance. (Course schedule abbreviation = ONL)
What are Hybrid Courses?
Hybrid courses provide a blended learning experience. Instruction, homework, and exams may take place through a combination of traditional and distance learning. Typically 16-50% of the course will take place in a face-to-face setting. For example, a 3-hour credit course might meet 8 to 24 hours throughout the semester, and a 4-hour credit course could meet 10 to 32 hours. The remaining course activities will be delivered using technology such as Canvas. (Course schedule abbreviation = HYB)
Is an Online Course Right for You?
Students who are successful in distance learning courses are generally independent, self-motivated learners, and comfortable with technology. Assignments can be completed at any time of day or night, making online and hybrid courses ideal for students who struggle with attending a regular class schedule. However, distance learning courses still require a weekly commitment. To be successful, students will need to create and maintain a regular schedule for reviewing course materials, completing activities, and submitting assignments.
If you are new to online courses, consider taking the Online Learning Self-Assessment. Additionally, we recommend easing into online learning by taking one course to start and then adding more courses in future terms. This will help you develop the necessary skills and experiences for success.
