Biotechnology improves: Medicine, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Industry, and the Environment.  Biotechnology is a continually evolving field offering advances in: Forensics, Pharmaceutical and Medical Research, Alternative Fuels, and Agriculture.


Cisco College has a state of the art lab, and has designed a program in biotechnology specifically to prepare students for entry-level positions in the rapidly growing biotechnology industry.  Opportunities in the field of Biotechnology include: Biotechnology Research Assistant/Technician, Laboratory Management and Support Positions, Pharmaceutical Research Assistant/Technician, Forensic Laboratory Assistant/Technician, and Federal Government Laboratory Technician.   


The first and second semester include lecture and lab work focusing in biotechnology topics, followed by the third and final semester that will include an internship at area labs.  Programs leading to a certificate may include specialty courses:

 Fundamentals of Biological Science  Biotechnology Lab Instrumentation
 Introduction to Biotechnology  Cell Culture Techniques
 Biotechnology Lab Methods and Techniques  Molecular Biotechnology Techniques
 Special Topics – Immunology  Medical Biotechnology
 Special Studies and Bioethical Issues of Biotechnology  Applied General Chemistry

Admission Requirements

Applicants for admission to this program must fulfill the general requirements for admission to the College. The procedure for seeking admission to the College follows:

  1. Complete the Cisco College application
  2. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  3. Talk to a counselor about testing

Prospective students should also remember that acceptance by Cisco College does not guarantee admission into specific occupational programs. Additional factors considered for admission may be a satisfactory record in high school or college, placement tests and other criteria.
